Where it started

I grew up in Massachusetts, close enough to Salem that it was never a place I visited once and romanticized from a distance — it was somewhere I actually spent time. Pyramid Books. Crow Haven Corner. Angelica of the Angels. As a teenager, those shops were real places I walked into, not aesthetics I discovered later on a screen.

I learned tarot at 18. Back then, in the shops lining Essex Street, it wasn't a trend — it was just what you did if you were curious about the world beyond what you could immediately see. Astrology. Spellwork. Cleansing. Meditation. I didn't think of it as a "practice" at the time. It was just part of growing up where I grew up.

The gap

Life did what life does. Somewhere along the way, the everyday took over — work, responsibilities, the version of adulthood nobody warns you is so loud. Tarot decks got packed away. The astrology books gathered dust. It wasn't a rejection of any of it, just a quiet drift, the way most of us drift from the things that once felt essential.

Coming back

At 36, I found my way back to it. Not as a costume, not as an aesthetic to try on — but as something I'd actually lived once, and had missed more than I realized. Pulling a tarot deck back out after all those years didn't feel like starting something new. It felt like coming home to something that had been waiting.

That return is where Foxfire & Fable actually comes from.

Why Foxfire & Fable

Foxfire is real — a soft, otherworldly glow that comes from certain fungi in old, decaying wood, deep in the forest, visible only if you know to look for it in the dark. Fable is the stories we tell to make sense of the world's magic, the ones passed down long before anyone wrote them in a book.

That's the whole idea behind this brand: something quietly magical, easy to miss if you're not looking, and worth telling stories about once you find it.
